Professional Biography

Jason Long’s practice draws from his pre-lawyer days as an educator and growing up as the son of a county school superintendent. Jason advises county boards of education, providing a wide range of services, including guidance on personnel matters (both service and professional personnel), student and employee discipline matters, special education issues and various due process hearings (including those in personnel season).

He conducts numerous in-service trainings and workshops to school systems and state educational organizations on a variety of legal topics and issues including student rights, FERPA, student discipline, employee discipline, sexual harassment, employee code of conduct, employee evaluations, service and professional personnel laws, and updates on the ever changing educational laws.

Career Highlight:

Jason Long counseled a privatized school transportation company in connection with its acquisition of an Illinois-based student transportation service provider serving special needs students and their families. The transaction represented a strategic expansion of the client’s market presence in Illinois and furthered its commitment to developing and implementing best practices in the transportation of special education students.

In advance of closing, Jason conducted extensive due diligence across a range of transaction-specific and industry-specific issues, including state and local tax matters and applicable regulatory requirements. He worked collaboratively with seller’s counsel throughout the process to help achieve a successful outcome for his client.
